Beams? Im using MPII's and the cruisers reduce theier range to either 1200m or 8500m...I cant hit anything.

Im running missions in an Abaddon atm, but this mission is killing me. The little cruisers keep killing my optimal range and reducing it to 1400m...how do you guys get around this? Heavy drones?
